Final Random Inspection of Apples in Turkey

This year, Turkey has exported $1.94 billion of fresh fruits and vegetables to foreign markets in the first nine months alone.
In the past year, Turkey's tomato exports experienced a 7% surge to hit $284 million in sales. Even more impressive was their peach export growth rate of 20%, which netted an additional $198 million. Tangerines also saw a 15% boost from foreign countries at roughly $169 million purchased.

Turkey's exports to Russia in the first nine months of this year hit $656 million, followed by Germany at a whopping $195.5 million and Romania at an impressive $143.1 million. Other destinations that have seen significant growth are Israel, Croatia, and Belarus- while Saudi Arabia alone imported approximately 15 Million Dollars' worth of fruits and vegetables from Turkey only in September! It is evident that Turkish exports continue to be on the rise even during challenging times like these.

Our success story is on Turkish apples, imported by a German fresh produce reseller, who requested a final random inspection pre-shipment in Köklü Soğuk Hava deposu eğirdir Isparta, Turkey. The inspection was requested to inspect 1160 crates of apples with a sample size 10 boxes.

Final random inspections are a great way to inspect large volumes of goods which if individually inspected would take too much time and be uneconomical. With the inspector randomly choosing a sample according to the defined sample size, a great overview of the product can be achieved in a short time frame. This is especially good for fresh produce inspections as the cold chain would not be broken for an inspection.

The key points for the inspection were the FRI (Final Random Inspection) of the quality of the 10 random boxes of apples (including any damage), conformity of the containers, the loading details - quantity loaded, and the cold chain verification.

This was all documented in a professional report with photographic evidence, and as the shipment of apples met all their conformity requirements, the shipment was loaded and sent.
