Germany exported goods to the value of 1,375.5 billion euros in 2021, making them the biggest exporter in the EU.

Germany is the biggest exporter of automobiles in the world and with a strong global reputation for producing high-quality and technologically advanced vehicles, they exported $135B worth of Cars.

The main destinations of car exports from Germany are China ($19.5B), United States ($13.1B), United Kingdom ($11.2B), France ($9.21B), and Italy ($8.02B).

Some of the prominent German car manufacturers include Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Porsche, among others. These companies are recognized for their engineering excellence, innovative technologies, and premium vehicle offerings.

The country has a significant presence in both the luxury and mid-range segments of the global automotive market.

The automotive sector in Germany also plays a key role in providing employment to close to 775 000 people and supporting related industries such as manufacturing, technology, and research and development.

Volkswagen, meaning ‘People’s car’ in German, was founded on May 28, 1937, and it seems the rest of the world agrees as based on the number of vehicles produced in Germany, Volkswagen accounted for the most exports. Far ahead of its competitors Daimler and BMW, with around 8.7 million vehicles produced in 2022.

Volkswagen benefited from innovative and flexible manufacturing systems in the 1970s which led to the birth of a new generation of Volkswagen's with the Passat, Scirocco, Golf, and Polo models. Growth was boosted in the 1980s through advances in vehicle technology, flexible production, and forward-looking international cooperation. Their largest export market is Mexico, followed by South Africa and Central American countries (Columbia, Ecuador, Argentina), and ASEAN countries.

As well as being a world leader for exporting cars, Germany also leads in drugs and medicines, and automotive parts or accessories. Vaccines, blood, antisera, toxins, and cultures made up $45.6B of their exports in 2021.

Interestingly Germany is the world’s biggest exporter of centrifuges, with exports worth $15.4 billion in 2021.
