In the past, brewing your own alcohol was illegal for Germans, mainly due to the heavy taxation imposed by other countries, leaving them with no alternative but to procure alcohol from external sources. However, in 1871, when the government lifted these burdensome taxes, brewing became an exceptionally lucrative endeavor. Today, Germany boasts a staggering number of over 1,500 breweries, showcasing the enduring and thriving tradition of German beer.
