This scam was reported on the group, Worldwide Import and Export, which has over 125,000 members and gives importers and exporters a chance to showcase their products and strike deals.
Groups like these are great places for importers and exports to meet, but as with most unregulated marketplaces, there is always the risk of a scam.
The client wanted to import 28 tons of PET resin from a Chinese manufacturer, to be shipped from Qingdao, China.
Payment terms were 30% deposit and 70% before release. There was a barrage of photos and invoices including a QC report on the product, shipping agreements, and freight clearances. All seemed in order and the agreed amount was paid over. All evidence of the product sent by the seller seemed legitimate, which gave the buyer confidence in paying the full USD 25,480.
Shipping was organized and the container landed safely in Hai Phong Vietnam. However, on inspection by the customs of Vietnam, it was discovered that the product was Salt- 28 tons of unusable salt.
The Buyer has requested the Seller to fix this issue, but the Seller has claimed that everything was in order, and is refusing a refund.
